FAQs

Theoretically, no. The standard explanation is that Kydex doesn't scratch, but things can get down in the sheath and cause scratches.  This is pretty much true in most cases.  That said, stuff is gonna get in there.   Probably sooner than later.  Likely before it leaves my shop.

Kydex will also scratch by itself if it needs to wrap behind the blade to get a hold.  This is the case on knives with no guards or handle swells, but a blade that acts as a guard.

The simplest answer is that Kydex is for knives that are gonna be used.  If your knife is only gonna see daylight for pictures or display then Kydex probably isn't what you want.  I would recommend keeping it boxed or putting it under glass.

Standard retention on my sheaths is fairly heavy.  I carry inverted and I fall, climb, and jump around a lot.  I make sheaths to that standard.  Draw is kept smooth and easy and a thumb ramp is usually added to assist.  The only exception are things like open backed sheaths for machetes and the like which will have a retention not suited for inverted carry. If you're wanting to wear a machete as a neck knife, you may wanna skip the exposed spine ;).

Retention can be adjusted to suit your needs of course.

Currently 2-4 weeks.

Military, LEO, Firefighter, EMT, and S&R orders will be moved to the top.

I do not.

Slots are an optional addon.  Standard slots are 3/16" and are made to add mounting options to sheaths.  They will allow most aftermarket belt attachments to mount at any angle and a slightly adjustable height.  Will also add to lashing options and allow things such as FS loops to be added more conveniently.
